Artist's Description
When the tourists arrive at Sting Ray Sandbar in Grand Cayman, the southern stingrays gather in a fever (yes, the word for a group of stingrays is fever) in hopes of getting some squid. Stingrays have been hand fed at this site for decades and are used to people, so feeding them here under the supervision of trained diver masters is relatively safe, but don't try this on your own.

I tried snorkeling on a trip to Hawaii and immediately was hooked on coral reefs. When I returned home, I signed up for scuba certification classes and found out that for medical reasons I could never be certified. Undaunted, I continued snorkeling and became a proficient free diver. I introduced my husband, Terry Melius (also a Fine Art America member), to snorkeling in 2000 and we've been snorkeling together ever since. In 2006 we purchased our first underwater cameras and began taking underwater photographs. Our first attempts at underwater photography were disappointing and we soon realized that we had much to learn.
