Artist's Description

if you see a fish that is gray with white spots chances are you about to see something spectacular because its going to be a spotted eagle ray or a whale shark. and, as the chances of seeing a whale shark by accident are pretty slim, it's likely going to be a beautiful spotted eagle ray like this one. photographing spotted eagle rays is challenging because they are shy and fast.

I tried snorkeling on a trip to Hawaii and immediately was hooked on coral reefs. When I returned home, I signed up for scuba certification classes and found out that for medical reasons I could never be certified. Undaunted, I continued snorkeling and became a proficient free diver. I introduced my husband, Terry Melius (also a Fine Art America member), to snorkeling in 2000 and we've been snorkeling together ever since. In 2006 we purchased our first underwater cameras and began taking underwater photographs. Our first attempts at underwater photography were disappointing and we soon realized that we had much to learn.
